Haitians Can

Empowering Haiti through its Communities.

Haitians Can is a non-profit organization (501 c 3) dedicated to helping the people of Haiti find and pursue their dreams and passions. This organization funds projects identified by local community leaders to embolden current and future generations through education, sports, and community building. We believe HAITIANS CAN will change Haiti community by community.

Water Project

Haitians Can is working with the community of Fonfrède to extend the capacity of a deep machine-dug well by adding a solar-powered pump and a large-capacity water tower to serve its community. We envision adding irrigation from the tower to nearby homes and farms in the coming months. Having water readily available changes the lives of each person in the community. Easily accessible water will daily help the children walking long distances to fetch water. This project will help women who are raising families and tending homes in arduous circumstances. Water will improve the quality of life for men whose very livelihood depends on accessible water for their crops and livestock.

Street Light Project

By providing solar powered street lights throughout the village of Fonfrède, we can provide safety for women and young girls walking to the well, hope for students unable to study due to darkness, and community for a village now able to gather outside of work hours. A larger charging station would provide a brighter light while allowing cell phones/laptops and sockets for rechargeable light bulbs to be charged. This also provides a convening area for young adults to study and others to convene safely.

She says that: I am very happy right now , before I used to live in the country which was always dark since we have lights now feels like we are living in downtown, now I am happy to say I don’t live only in Vonvon ( it’s vonvonville)I don’t feel like going to sleep right now , I feel like staying under this light for the whole night but unfortunately they have to go off at a certain time. But I am happy with the impact.
